In this hands-on camp, learn how people from all over the world hunted before the bow and arrow. Campers will spend the week learning to make their own atlatl (spear thrower) and dart (spear), using only stone and bone tools from the past. They will practice throwing darts at a target every day and will become proficient in its use. The practice of stalking, tracking and animal movements will also be part of the camp.
This camp will require participants to work hard every day to complete making their hunting equipment but will be rewarded by having an authentic, functional replica of one of our most ancient hunting systems. Images and more details coming soon for this life changing, hands on camp! Overall class goals and objectives for ALL classes, camps and workshops:
- Learn how prehistoric peoples created a multitude of art and culture items from the natural materials around them.
- Learn how ancestral peoples made the tools and acquired the plant, animal and mineral resources to create art and culture items.
- Learn to appreciate the relationships these ancient peoples had with the natural world around them and how they lived in balance with it.
- Learn the STEM lessons presented from working with the tools and materials.
