DESCRIPTION:Ancient Paints 101: Animals and Handprints. Ages: 8-12\n\nENROLLMENT OPEN – SIGN UP HERE \nLearn how prehistoric people made materials used to create animal images found over 50\,000 years ago on cave walls. Create handprints and to draw ice age animals with handmade charcoal and paints. \nBrushes and drawing tools\nNew discoveries show that humans have been making handprints and painting scenes of animals on cave walls for over 50\,000 years. In this class\, students will learn how prehistoric peoples made the materials used to create these images. Students will grind earth colors into pigments\, use traditional brushes and see how these ancient artists illuminated these underground spaces using only small flickering lamps. The motivations and techniques for applying paint to the walls will be explored as well as why certain animals were chosen to be illustrated. Students will have the opportunity to create handprints and to draw ice age animals with handmade charcoal and paints. \n  Overall class goals and objectives for ALL classes\, camps and workshops: \n\nLearn how prehistoric peoples created a multitude of art and culture items from the natural materials around them.\nLearn how ancestral peoples made the tools and acquired the plant\, animal and mineral resources to create art and culture items.\nLearn to appreciate the relationships these ancient peoples had with the natural world around them and how they lived in balance with it.\nLearn the STEM lessons presented from working with the tools and materials.
